Exciting Co-op Partnership that really Works!
BMO InvestorLine and the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) have partnered since 1997 to provide students interested in accounting, marketing, computer science, information technology, economics and entrepreneurship with a wonderful co-operative work experience. During both semesters this year, 20 students have worked at BMO InvestorLine in various departments such as Investore (BMO InvestorLine’s storefront), SPAR (Trading) Transfers, Credit, and New Accounts.

For many of the students, the experience at First Canadian Place represents their first sustained exposure to downtown and skyscraper culture. Students have amazing work experiences with interested and experienced supervisors. A teacher from the TDSB is located on-site to facilitate these students as they work throughout the organization. This teacher is responsible for the students even though they come from schools all over the city. The teacher screens students for admission as well as monitors them throughout the placement. Over the years, many students have been offered part time work during Christmas holidays, March break as well the summer vacation.
One student who has participated in the program says, “Thanks to the Co-op program, I am a full time employee at BMO InvestorLine. Many students are benefiting each year throughout TDSB; I hope that they, like me, had one of the most rewarding experiences of their high school years.”
BMO InvestorLine not only offers good co-op placements but also is an exemplary corporate citizen in its interest in and treatment of students. Some students stay on after graduation to work part time while attending university or college and many students have been hired to entry-level positions after high school. BMO has other incentives for students interested in this line of work wishing to further their education.
