Welcome to the Resource Centre for Parents
In this section, you will find resources to help your child prepare for future entry into the workforce. There are links to websites for resume writing, preparing for job interviews, etc. as well as other related sites. There are also Passport to Prosperity e-newsletters that describe many types of student work experiences.
You will find examples of successful school-employer partnerships such as in-house Coop programs at Bank of Montreal and Ontario Power Generation where a Coop teacher runs a Coop program using a classroom at the employer’s premises, as well as innovative initiatives by School Boards in the Greater Toronto area such as the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s “Mission Employable event” and Durham District School Board’s “Getting to Work Day,” both aimed at students leaving school and going straight into the workforce.
A Virtual Workplace tour featuring the hospitality industry which was filmed in the spring of 2004 will soon be ready for viewing from The Learning Partnership website (www.thelearningpartnership.ca). In addition, each secondary school Principal in the GTA was mailed a videotape copy of the tour in September 2004 for classroom use.
