ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

The Research Alliance for Children with Special Needs has produced a 4-page bulletin entitled “Planning Successful Transitions from School to Adult Roles for Youth with Disabilities” in their September edition of Focus On...

The Purpose of this Summary:

This summary provides information for planners of services for youth with disabilities who face transitions from school to adult roles. These planners include teachers in the school system and service providers in agencies providing services for youth with disabilities. The information provided here will assist transition planners to check whether they are on the right track in terms of the approaches and strategies they take.

The summary is intended to provide recommendations for planning transition services for youth who have average intellectual ability. For youth with cognitive impairments, the best practices need to incorporate strategies to support the group of people who speak on behalf of the youth.

Copies of Focus On... are not available to download due to copyright and publication issues, but may be requested via email below. Provide your postal address when sending your request and RACSN will send you a paper copy.
